You might like to try a Stuart Tackle setup with a bit of mackerel belly, all attached by a 1m dropper to a medium sized bubble float.

The rig can be enhanced with a booby bead at the front end.

For the uninitiated, Stuart Tackle is a 3 hook arrangement. The hooks are arranged 2 up and 1 down, with the hook shanks tied together. They are braced by a short length of 30lb mono, whipped with silk and glued with a touch of PVA. You may find it wise to thread the 30lb mono through the hook eyes before whipping and using a couple of inches as a leader. It is advisable to use this tackle with a swivel.

I prefer to wrap the mackerel belly around the rig, with the hooks poking through and a couple of inches trailing. It is also effective with the belly hooked to the two hooks, or fixed with a binding of bait elastic.

I look for the fry jumping and cast over the shoal. I let the baited tackle hang for a few seconds before retrieving. Stand by for one helluva strike from the fish! You wont need to strike yourself. The fish does all the work.
